Hyderabad: Telangana High Court on Tuesday quashed the criminal case registered against former Sangareddy MLA and senior Congress leader Thurpu Jayaprakash Reddy, also known as Jagga Reddy, for organising protests without permission in 2021. The case was pending before the Special Judicial Magistrate of First Class for Prohibition and Excise Cases, Hyderabad. The criminal case stemmed from an incident on January 19, 2021, when Congress leaders allegedly organised and participated in a public rally without obtaining prior police permission. The rally was part of a protest against the three farm laws enacted by the Central Government and the increase in petrol and diesel prices. With the High Court allowing the criminal petition, the proceedings against Thurpu Jayaprakash Reddy in the case have been quashed.
