Hyderabad: The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has seized Gabazen Tablets containing Gabapentin 300 mg after finding that the prescription medicine was allegedly being manufactured and sold under the guise of a food product or nutraceutical using an FSSAI licence.
Manufactured in Malkajgiri, marketed as supplementThe agency said the tablets were manufactured by Gothic Pharmaceuticals Pvt.
The product was allegedly manufactured under a food licence (FSSAI) instead of the mandatory drug licence required for prescription medicines.
DCA warns against illegal manufacturingThe administration warned that drugs manufactured and sold under food licences may not adhere to prescribed manufacturing standards, posing serious health risks to patients.
The DCA noted that manufacturing or selling drugs without a valid drug licence is punishable with imprisonment of up to five years under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
