The Kerala government is introducing a new Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based disaster management programme to improve the state’s ability to prepare for and respond to natural disasters. Officials believe that keeping rivers clean and free from obstructions will help reduce flood damage during the monsoon season. Removing such encroachments is expected to improve water movement and reduce flooding in vulnerable areas. Along with technology and infrastructure improvements, the government plans to strengthen coordination between disaster management agencies, local authorities, emergency services, and weather departments. The state government believes that combining Artificial Intelligence with scientific forecasting, flood mapping, river management, and stronger environmental protection will create a more effective disaster management system.
