The Czech Health Ministry has introduced an exceptional measure to address a shortage of tamoxifen, a key breast cancer medication.
The State Institute for Drug Control (SÚKL) said the ministry had launched a special treatment program temporarily allowing pharmacies to prepare 10 mg and 20 mg tamoxifen medicines using selected unregistered products.
In practice, pharmacists will be able to dispense tamoxifen medicines that are not registered in the Czech Republic, provided they are approved in another European Union member state.
According to SÚKL, only 81 packs of tamoxifen-containing medicines were available as of Wednesday morning.
