Record-breaking heat did not deter hundreds of people from climbing Lysá Hora, the highest peak in the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains, on Tuesday. Families with children and senior hikers were among those reaching the summit, where the temperature climbed to 29.8 degrees Celsius — the highest ever recorded there since measurements began in 1934, according to meteorologist Petr Drobek of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute. Rescue services nevertheless urged people to reconsider strenuous hiking during the current spell of extreme heat.
