HP, Asus and Acer have started to use CXMT memory, reports the Nikkei.
The notebooks using CXMT chips are not for sale in US markets because CXMT is on the Pentagon’s Chinese Military Companies list and, while it is not illegal for US companies to buy CXMT chips, doing so carries political and reputational risk.
Recently Apple was reported to have asked the US government for permission to buy CXMT memory.
Memory buyers are also said to be wary of falling foul of the Big Three DRAM suppliers if they buy large amounts from CXMT.
The prices the companies are paying are said to be on a par with Samsung’s prices.
