Following its import bans on Chinese drones, routers, inverters and robots the US government is said to be drafting a ban on optical transceivers, reports Reuters. The move aims to prevent China from stealing data, installing malware or disrupting services in US datacentres. US transceiver suppliers Lumentum, Coherent and Applied Optoelectronics saw their share prices jump on the news. Innolight, the Chinese transceiver company which has 27% world market share, is likely to be the biggest loser. The way the US is likely to implement the ban will be to ban all imports of transceivers and then exempt friendly non-Chinese suppliers from the ban.
