On Sunday, Vail Golf Club announced the implementation of phase one of its drought management plans following a low winter snowpack and a dry summer, with phase two not far behind. The drought management plans are based on streamflow measurements in Gore Creek and the Eagle River. According to Trey Johnson, director of the Vail Golf Club, once the flow at Gore Creek at Red Sandstone drops below 20 cubic feet per second — the volume and speed of the water at a certain point — then the golf course implements phase one. This will be decided depending on turf conditions, temperatures and time of day, according to a recent statement made by Vail Golf Club. If the course conditions and water levels were to reach phase three implementation, all golf carts will be fully restricted.
