The larger of the two schemes is planned for Gower Street, where 56 flats could be built on land currently occupied by industrial units between Gower Street and Vernon Street. Both schemes would be delivered through the council’s housing company, Handford Homes, which has already built more than 400 homes across Ipswich. The council is also being asked to decide whether to apply for funding through Homes England’s Social and Affordable Housing Programme for 2026 to 2036. If approved, Ipswich could apply as part of a consortium led by Orwell Housing Association, or submit its own bid. Councillors will also consider issues including parking pressures near the Gower Street site, with further consultation planned.
