'Major breakthrough' for rare African bird species as chicks hatch at Chester Zoo

The arrival of the secretarybird chicks marks the first time have bred at the zoo in its 95-year history.
Chester Zoo – England’s national conservation zoo - is one of only a handful of UK zoos caring for secretarybirds.
Experts believe the techniques developed at Chester could now help other conservation zoos boost breeding success across Europe.
Jamie Cartwright-Stock, a bird keeper behind the breeding success at Chester Zoo, said: “Seeing five healthy chicks hatch in such a short space of time is an incredible achievement for everyone involved.
Andrew Owen, head of birds at Chester Zoo, said: “Every chick hatched in conservation zoos is becoming increasingly important for the future of this remarkable species.
