PSI - The global union federation of workers in public services
Australia’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen, who is also President of the COP31 negotiations, joined PSI’s Oceania Sub-Regional Advisory Committee meeting (OSRAC) on Thursday, 30 July.
The meeting was hosted by the United Services Union in Sydney, Australia and was attended by PSI affiliates in the region.
During the meeting, Minister Bowen invited PSI to attend the upcoming Pre-COP conference in Fiji and bring forward the experiences and demands of frontline public service workers from across the Pacific.
Health and care workers, emergency service workers, local government workers, civil servants, utility workers and public administration workers are among those responding every day to the impacts of dangerous global warming.
From extreme weather and rising seas to climate-related health emergencies, public service workers are increasingly carrying the burden of protecting communities in moments of crisis.
