SNP calls for Ofcom investigation into ‘appalling’ Royal Mail standards in Shetland

The SNP has demanded the UK government sort out “unacceptable standards” at the Royal Mail after new figures revealed dire service levels in Scottish islands, including Shetland.
The SNP said the Royal Mail did not even come close to meeting this target in Scotland’s rural population despite being subject to a universal service obligation.
“The decision to sell off the Royal Mail by Westminster was short-sighted and neglectful.
“In response, Royal Mail committed to return performance back to the regulated targets by April 2027, and to invest £500 million over the next five years.
The Royal Mail said Shetland’s “ZE” post code was exempt from the targets set for other parts of the country due to the challenges of serving remote communities.
