A proposed rule change to combat aggressive seagulls in Norwegian cities has been rejected by the minister, who is seeking a compromise. Norway's environment minister, Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, has rejected a proposal to strip seagulls of environmental protections so that the nests of nuisance gulls can be moved away from town and city centres. Over the weekend, Sivertsen reportedly took the Stavanger Aftenblad to Torget in Stavanger, where a seagull snatched his burger, Norwegian media reports state. Minister Eriksen said he understood the problems caused by aggressive gulls, but that a better solution would be to reduce habitat destruction forcing gulls into cities. The environment minister, however, pointed out that Norway already has existing regulations that allow for measures to reduce conflicts with seagulls.
