The third spot on our countdown of top sports moments from Newton High School during the 2025-2026 school year belongs to a senior swimmer. Finn Martin earned his third state title in the 50-yard freestyle at the Boys State Swim Meet at the University of Iowa Aquatic Center in Iowa City on February 14th of this year. His time of 20.06 was a meet record, and earned the Newton boys swim team 20 team points. The prior meet record was 20.15 set in February 2016. The senior also contributed to a pair of 7th place performances at the state swim meet, by competing in the Cardinals’ 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays.
