Christian County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Bitcoin Phone Scam
[]
WKDZ
The Christian County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving someone impersonating one of its deputies.
According to the sheriff’s office, scammers are posing as Lt. James Dragoo and telling victims they missed a court date or have a failure-to-appear or contempt warrant.
The callers then instruct people to send money through a Bitcoin kiosk to avoid being arrested.
The sheriff’s office says the calls are fraudulent and reminds the public that deputies will never call to demand payment over the phone or direct someone to deposit money into a Bitcoin machine.
Anyone who receives one of these calls is urged to hang up immediately, avoid providing any personal or financial information, and contact the Christian County Sheriff’s Office directly to report the incident or verify any claims.
