Skywatchers in Malta will be able to catch a partial solar eclipse next week, with the Moon covering around 12% of the Sun at sunset on Wednesday 12th August. The eclipse will begin at 7:41pm and end at 7:56pm, making for a short but rare celestial event visible from the Maltese Islands. While Malta will only experience a partial eclipse, the event will be seen as a total solar eclipse across parts of northern Spain, western Iceland and eastern Greenland. If you plan to watch next week’s eclipse, remember never to look directly at the Sun without certified eclipse glasses or appropriate solar filters, as doing so can cause permanent eye damage.
