A routine international flight turned into a frightening experience for passengers when an Air India Airbus A320neo suddenly lost altitude while cruising between Phuket and Delhi.
Although the aircraft landed safely, the incident left 17 people injured and has once again brought aviation safety into sharp focus.
Air India flight AI2379 departed Phuket, Thailand, for Delhi carrying 137 passengers and eight crew members.
According to Air India, 13 passengers and four crew members were injured during the incident.
The safe landing of the aircraft demonstrates that aviation safety systems, aircraft design and crew training worked as intended.
