Town set to lose Post Office... despite fight for its future
['Gavin Mcewan']
Hereford Times | News
Morrisons announced in May that its convenience store in the former Martin’s in South Street, Leominster would close, the date initially being given as July 13.
This was to be among more than 50 Post Office counters being lost nationally as the retailer culled around 100 of its Morrisons Daily outlets, due chiefly to rising employment costs, it said.
This is despite more than 1,000 people signing a paper and online petition to keep the post office open, according to store manager and postmistress Sian Rooke-Jenkins.
North Herefordshire Green MP Ellie Chowns said online on July 23 that the closure was “terrible, because we’ve got to have a permanent, proper Post Office in Leominster”.
But there has been no further announcement since on a temporary Post Office for the town.
