Why Does the US Want to Spread Its Wars to the Caspian?

Back on July 23-24 US struck targets in Iran’s Gilan Province on the Caspian Sea. Ukraine followed up with an attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea on July 25. It connects Kazakhstan’s Caspian Sea oil fields with Russia’s Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, and it brings roughly 80% of Kazakhstan’s oil exports to the world market. The 2018 Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea is often presented as a diplomatic success. The Parties may lay submarine cables and pipelines on the bed of the Caspian Sea.
