Cumbria’s Wordsworth Trust secured the letters at auction in London, each one offering fresh insight into the personal and political life of the iconic poet, including his engagement with national affairs. Michael McGregor, director of the Wordsworth Trust, said: "We are incredibly lucky to have such generous donors to help us to continue to build on our existing collection. The other two letters are addressed to Sir William Rowan Hamilton and are considered particularly valuable by the Trust, as they already hold letters from Hamilton to Wordsworth. One of the letters to Hamilton was sent from Rydal Mount, where Hamilton stayed in 1830 and 1831.
