Upenyu Ophias Makarange, 46, was witnessed almost colliding with other vehicles and a pedestrian in Kendal on the evening of June 6 last year, prosecutor Lee Dacre said. He admitted he had been drinking alcohol and was taken to the police station after providing a positive roadside breathalyser reading. The legal drink driving limit is 35 micrograms. Makarange pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to driving with alcohol above the legal limit. They also disqualified him from driving for 20 months – but offered him the opportunity to complete a drink driving rehabilitation course, which if completed successfully, would see the ban reduced by 20 weeks.
