Engineers to move Furness electricity pylon after unstable tower discovered
['Imogen Barber']

A notification has been submitted to Westmorland and Furness Council for the replacement of an electricity pylon near Marshfield Farm in Kirkby-in-Furness.
Submitted by Gareth Barton on behalf of SP Electricity North West, the proposal involves replacing tower AF30 along a 132kV overhead line due to concerns about the stability of its foundations.
Investigations by SP Electricity North West revealed movement in one of the tower’s stub legs, prompting the installation of temporary wind stays.
SP Electricity North West requested that Westmorland and Furness Council confirm whether the project might have a significant environmental impact requiring referral to the Secretary of State.
The site forms part of an existing overhead line running from Kirkby-in-Furness towards Broughton-in-Furness.
