Tuesday evening saw the failure of an amendment on state income tax as part of the Missouri primary elections. Amendment 5, which would have required the Missouri General Assembly to phase out the individual state income tax when certain revenue-growth requirements are met, was voted down by 83 percent of voters in Missouri. In Ozark County the primary for Republican Presiding Commissioner was won by Jim Britt with 62 percent or 1,293 votes. In Howell County Heath Hardman won the primary for Republican Associate Circuit Judge Division 3 with 38 percent of the vote or 2,590 votes cast. A sales tax increase for West Plains was defeated Tuesday night with 83 percent of voters opposed.
