Originally exhibited at London Victoria station, The Summer Rail Garden installation by Network Rail explains how rising temperatures can affect rail operations. Shown at York’s National Railway Museum, it also showcases the technologies and mitigation strategies Network Rail is developing to build greater climate resilience. Lisa Angus, industry weather response director at Network Rail, said: "Due to the effects of climate change, periods of extreme heat and dry weather are becoming more frequent. "This summer has already demonstrated some of the challenges that hotter conditions can bring for the railway, with impacts on track, ground conditions, and power and signalling systems." The exhibition also highlights buckled rails, ground movement, sagging overhead lines, and faults caused by overheating.
