SONABEL to begin controlled spillage of Bagre Dam from August 11

SONABEL, the power-producing company of Burkina Faso, has announced plans to begin the controlled spillage of the Bagre Dam from Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Water Resources Commission, Ghana, and copied to the Ghana News Agency at Bolgatanga.
Providing an update on the Bagre Dam’s water level, the statement said SONABEL, the operators of the dam, indicated that the reservoir water level as of Tuesday, August 4, 2026, was 232.93 metres, with the dam filled to 62.77 per cent of its capacity.
“SONABEL plans to commence controlled water spillage from the Bagre Dam from Tuesday, August 11, 2026, if the reservoir water level reaches 234.00 metres,” the statement said.
The statement advised communities along the White Volta and adjoining areas to take the necessary precautionary measures and adhere to safety guidelines issued by the local assemblies and the appropriate authorities.
