Both schemes form part of the 4.3ha Founders Place masterplan for Founders Place, a joint venture between igloo and Newcastle City Council, located immediately south of the Grade I-listed Newcastle Central station on former locomotive land. AHMM’s One Founders Place office building was submitted to the council in June as a stand-alone application for a 12-storey commercial development holding 12,100m² of office space to the north of the 1.7ha regeneration site. Food and beverage uses are proposed at ground floor alongside Founders Place, a new public square. AHMM said the site’s industrial heritage informed brick plinth and arches at the base of the office, while steelwork on higher floors honoured the city’s bridges.
