Share this story:I remember the day I bought Nathan M. Greenfield’s book Hanged in Medicine Hat. The Second World War was not going well for many countries and the total number of lives lost was staggering. With the combination of the weather conditions and geographical remoteness of Medicine Hat, along with the CPR running through the city which provided the means to transport vast numbers of POWs, Medicine Hat was an obvious choice. Camp 132 in Medicine Hat is probably the most infamous of German POW camps in western Canada. This number is incredible because the population of Medicine Hat during that time period was just over 10,000.
