In recent years, two cows - including a seven-month-old calf - died after consuming rubbish left in the meadow, including plastic bags and balloons. Anna Railton, cabinet member for planning and zero carbon Oxford, said: "We want everyone to enjoy Oxford's parks and green spaces. Port Meadow, described as one of Oxford’s most treasured open spaces, attracts thousands of visitors throughout the year. The council reminded the public that dropping litter is an offence, with fines of £150 for those caught. Barbecues and open fires are strictly prohibited on Port Meadow.
