From tall ships to prehistoric beasts, classic Cumbrian attractions and a touch of Beatrix Potter, he says there is plenty to keep both families and adults entertained.
“To be honest, this is one of the best summer holidays I can think of for a long time in terms of activities in Whitehaven,” he said.
Markets remain a key part of the summer offer, with a town market followed by Whitehaven Town Council’s own markets on August 14 and 15, which Richardson says are proving popular with younger people as well as families.
The Beacon Museum is hosting “Carboniferous Monsters”, a new exhibition that Richardson describes as “absolutely brilliant”.
For a quieter cultural option, Whitehaven Town Council is hosting a Beatrix Potter exhibition in its Roper Street space, exploring her life, Lake District connections and famous characters.
