Work already carried out included repainting the fountain green, yellow and white, repairing a broken crocodile and finial, and painting over bracing around a fractured column. Concerns were also raised over plans to weld the repaired crocodile back onto the canopy. The change from black to Brunswick Green was considered acceptable in principle, but the bright yellow and white detailing was opposed. But Ms Harris concluded: "The scheme as proposed leaves the structure at risk of further deterioration and loss of fabric." The application was refused on July 27 over the bracing, paintwork, cleaning of paint spillages and proposed welding of the crocodile.
