West Lancashire Council has launched a consultation on a new Market Licensing Policy, which it says is designed to safeguard the long-term future of Ormskirk Market and maintain high standards across markets operating in the borough. The authority says the proposed policy will help protect the prosperity of Ormskirk Market, ensure a diverse range of stalls, and provide a clear framework for managing and regulating markets in West Lancashire. Today, the council-run market operates every Thursday and Saturday and hosts a programme of themed and special markets throughout the year. According to the council, despite the challenges facing many high streets and traditional markets, Ormskirk Market continues to perform strongly, attracting high footfall and supporting around 50 licensed traders. Cllr David Whittington, leader of West Lancashire Council, said: "Ormskirk Market is one of the borough's most valued assets, historically, culturally, and economically.
