This story is part two of ‘Project Nike: Remembering Marin’s nuclear missile base,’ which ran last week. EXHIBIT The Nike Missile Site SF-88 in the Marin Headlands is a fully restored Cold War nuclear anti-aircraft missile base featuring free guided tours, an underground missile magazine and historic military exhibits. After the Army, Kellogg took to biking as a way to stay in shape. The remains of Nike Missile Base SF-93 sit atop a small hillock just barely outside the city limits of San Rafael in unincorporated Terra Linda. When I was there, a group was setting up portable grandstands for a mountain bike racing event, oblivious to the site’s history as a nuclear missile base.
