The Florence Hotel stood at the corner of South Patterson Street and East Savannah Avenue from 1905 to 1911, serving the bustling railroad traffic. The proprietor, William A. Jeter Sr., died unexpectedly in 1910 after a brief illness in Macon while visiting his daughters. His funeral began at the hotel and proceeded to Sunset Cemetery, where community leaders served as pallbearers.
