Shane Thomas/The Valdosta Daily Times Coffee second baseman Acalyn Swails (12) slides in to score to put the Trojans ahead 5-3 in the top of the fourth inning against Lowndes, Monday, Aug. 3, at Morris-Coats Field.
VALDOSTA – Lowndes High softball opener against visiting Coffee County saw plenty of fireworks, but only lasted 3 1/2 innings as lightning wiped out the finish.
The Vikettes fell into an early 3-0 hole as the Trojans scored on RBI singles from Bella Purvis, Allie Pridgen and Maggie Brown.
Emma Huxford smacked a ground ball to left field to bring Ellie Colson across to put Lowndes on the board, down 3-1.
Huxford got Jocelyn Fender to ground out, but even though the Vikettes rang up two quick outs, the Trojans kept coming.
