President Donald J. Trump has approved Missouri’s request for a major disaster declaration, making federal assistance available to 34 counties affected by flash flooding, tornadoes, and damaging straight-line winds that occurred between June 4 and June 18, 2026. The declaration authorizes FEMA’s Public Assistance Program for local governments and eligible nonprofit organizations. The program provides funding for repairing and restoring damaged roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure, while also reimbursing eligible emergency response expenses. Governor Kehoe requested the federal disaster declaration on July 9 after joint Preliminary Damage Assessments were completed by the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and local officials. Those assessments documented more than $32.3 million in eligible emergency response costs and damage to public infrastructure, supporting the state’s request for federal assistance.
