Rudevit founding chairperson Hastings Bofomo Nyirenda said the factory is currently operating one eight-hour production shift and has the capacity to produce approximately 3,000 kilogrammes of granulated organic fertiliser every hour. The commencement of production comes at a time when Malawi is promoting climate-smart agriculture and encouraging the adoption of environmentally friendly farming practices to improve food security. One of the employees, Pamela Kachingwe, said working at the factory has transformed her life after spending a long period searching for employment. The launch of full production at the Chileka factory is expected to strengthen Malawi’s organic fertiliser industry and support government efforts to increase agricultural productivity through sustainable and locally produced farming inputs.
