Dickens classic A Tale of Two Cities to tour UK in major new stage productionMarlowe Theatre announces cast for first national tour of Terence Rattigan and John Gielgud’s acclaimed adaptationThe Marlowe Theatre has announced the cast and UK tour dates for its ambitious new production of Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities, adapted for the stage by Terence Rattigan and Sir John Gielgud.
The production will premiere at the Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury, from 14–19 September before heading to Leeds Playhouse from 22–26 September.
Further dates in 2027 will include Theatre Royal Bath, Cheltenham Theatre, Chichester Festival Theatre, the King’s Theatre Edinburgh and Theatre Clwyd, with additional venues to be announced.
The production marks the first major staging of Rattigan and Gielgud’s adaptation, with the creative team promising a bold theatrical interpretation of one of the world’s best-loved novels.
Supported by public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England, A Tale of Two Cities promises to bring Dickens’ story of passion, politics and personal sacrifice to theatres across the UK.
