Authorities have arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of arson in connection with the largest of the wildfires that have forced about 67,000 people to evacuate from Spokane, Washington, according to ABC News.
Aaron Farinacci was arrested in connection with the Old Trails fire after witnesses reportedly saw him kneeling near dry grass where the blaze started.
Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels said deputies later found Farinacci carrying matches and a lighter.
Three major wildfires, Old Trails, Fairview, and Autumn Lane, have been burning around Washington state’s second-largest city since the weekend.
The three Spokane fires are among 16 active wildfires across Washington state, according to the state’s Department of Natural Resources.
