9to5Google reported yesterday that Google has started emailing Google Assistant users to warn them that the app will be “discontinued” on Android and Wear OS on September 4. There’s now a Gemini for Home assistant on connected speakers, as well as a new Gemini for Google TV for devices like the Google TV streamer. For Android users still using the old Google Assistant, the mobile app will be removed after September 4, leaving Gemini as “the assistant experience” on Android. The legacy Google Assistant will also be retired on Wear OS smartwatches, headphones, and Android Auto after September 4. However, cars with Google built-in, which run the company’s automotive operating system directly without the need for a connected phone, will keep access to the Google Assistant beyond September 4, 2026.
