BY DONNA SWICEGOODOn the anniversary of her tragic death, Surtonia Burton was remembered affectionately by many people whose lives she touched. Dobbins was one of several people who paid tribute to Burton during a service at Freedom Church International’s campus in Statesville on Sunday. The service came on the first anniversary of Burton’s death. Surtonia Burton Day was celebrated at the church with several speakers reflecting on her impact on the community. Kutteh said he hoped Burton’s legacy would be for everyone to “do better.”
