Five writers have been honoured in the 2026 Shalom Collective Australian Jewish Writer Awards. The awards celebrate outstanding Australian writing on Jewish subjects across non-fiction, young writers, playwriting, fiction and poetry. Efron uses meat as a lens through which to explore almost 1,000 years of German and Jewish history. Recognition for Jewish storiesSydney Aaranson, program manager of the Australian Jewish Writer Awards, said recognition, support and visibility were particularly important at a time when telling Jewish stories could be challenging. Support from donors had enabled the awards to expand and give more Australian Jewish writers the recognition their work deserved.
