The mixed-use redevelopment of the former Virginia Center Commons mall site is set to get its one and only planned mixed-use building. A development plan was recently approved for a three-story building with residential units above commercial space for a nearly quarter-acre parcel within the massive Village at Virginia Center Commons redevelopment that’s transforming the now-razed mall site into a mixed-use, urban-style village. Noting the existing commercial buildings outside the loop road, and the new ones within it, Hargett added that Henrico didn’t require a large amount of mixed-use space. As for the commercial space, Miller said they have a waiting list of potential users interested in the space, which he said would provide a service to the larger community. The development plan filed with Henrico did not specify square-footages for the commercial space or the apartments.
