SEOUL, South Korea: A record-breaking heatwave is affecting the Korean Peninsula, with extremely high temperatures reported in South Korea and North Korea. Authorities are increasing emergency actions as people try to cope by going to cooling centers, beaches, and water parks. South Korea’s weather agency warned that temperatures in western regions could rise even further in the coming days. The weather agency issued its first-ever severe heatwave warning for parts of Seoul and nearby Gyeonggi Province. The highest-level heat alerts are also in place across southern regions, including Busan, Ulsan, South Gyeongsang, and parts of Gwangju and South Jeolla Province.
