Salem: The inflow of water released by Karnataka from the Kabini Dam at the Hogenakkal point had increased to 20,000 cusecs, and was expected to reach the Mettur Dam by midnight on Tuesday, officials said. Officials of the Central Water Resources Department are also closely monitoring the river flow at Biligundlu, the Tamil Nadu–Karnataka interstate border on the Cauvery river. 27,000 cusecs of water was released from the Kabini Dam on Saturday, but dropped on Monday to 500 cusecs. Water also cascaded forcefully through the Five Falls, Main Falls, and Cini Falls. With the water level rising, police and fire and rescue personnel have intensified patrols and monitoring along the riverbanks at Hogenakkal.
