Nellore: Hundreds of students of the Government Polytechnic College at Venkateswarapuram staged a protest on Tuesday, alleging inadequate basic amenities and unsafe conditions on the campus.
The students complained of contaminated drinking water, dilapidated classrooms with peeling ceilings, poor-quality hostel food and the absence of a compound wall or fencing.
MLC Parvathareddy Chandrasekhar Reddy visited the college, interacted with the students and expressed support for their demands.
He said the Government Polytechnic College, once regarded as a premier institution in Nellore, had reached a stage where students were forced to protest for basic amenities such as safe drinking water.
Chandrasekhar Reddy assured the students that he would continue to pursue the matter until their grievances were addressed.
