US cities that hosted the 2026 FIFA World Cup are pursuing the soccer governing body over the millions they were promised. According to The Athletic, these cities believe they were entitled to receive substantial payments from FIFA for hosting the tournament. Prior to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, FIFA President Gianni Infantino declared that each of the 11 cities across the US would receive $1 million for their role in hosting the tournament. Several cities have reportedly reached out to FIFA regarding this payment but have not received any acknowledgment. US taxpayer funds were primarily utilized to cover both direct and indirect expenses associated with the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
