“Hostel” and “Cabin Fever” filmmaker Eli Roth’s new horror tale “Ice Cream Man” has become the subject of controversy in the last day or so as reviews for the title have emerged. But it’s the inclusion of AI visual effects company Dark Half in its credits that has led people online to wonder how much of the film was created using generative AI. AI was used in a very small portion of a few scenes in the film. Roth reportedly didn’t specify which scenes used generative AI or how the technology was incorporated, saying only it was limited to “a very small portion of a few scenes”. The comments follow in the wake of a Reddit thread claiming the film used generative AI throughout.
