The Eighth Judicial District Court of the State of Nevada is alerting residents to a scam in which callers impersonate law enforcement officers and demand cash payments over false jury duty warrants. According to court officials, one resident received a text message claiming they were not required to report for jury service on July 16. Shortly after, someone posing as a police officer called and claimed the resident had missed jury duty and owed two misdemeanor fines totaling $3,400. The court stressed that it never contacts residents by phone to demand payment on a warrant, never requires cash bonds, and never directs anyone to an unlisted location to settle a case. Suspicious contacts can be reported to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Financial Crimes Unit or through the Federal Trade Commission's fraud-reporting portal.
