Rare surviving colour cine films have provided a remarkable glimpse of the final days of the Tay Ferries and the dawn of a new era with the opening of the Tay Road Bridge. They also feature the Tay Road Bridge opening ceremony. The opening of the Tay Road Bridge sounded the death knell for the famous ferries, bringing to a close a service that had linked Dundee and Fife for generations. It read: “What a send-off the Tay Ferries got yesterday evening as the Scotscraig made the last sailings across the sun-lit river. The cine footage also includes scenes from earlier that day, when the Queen Mother officially opened the Tay Road Bridge and was greeted by cheering crowds.
