So it was fun to hear from fishing guide Jesse Brison, aka White River Nation, who wrestled a gigantic rainbow trout out of the White River. That superlative belongs to Jim Miller of Memphis, who pulled a 19-pound rainbow trout out of the White River in 1981. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission keeps a fastidious roster of record catches dating back six decades. The oldest entry is also the most legendary: On July 31, 1964, while fishing with rod and reel on the Arkansas River near Clarksville, Alvin Bonds of Dardanelle caught an alligator gar weighing 215 pounds.
